This is a 480 bed teaching hospital for Uni of Newcastle and the principal regional referral hospital, the ED sees 55,000 - 59,000 attendances annually with a significant number of elderly and paediatric patients. Your training will be well supported by a structured education program inhouse, FACEM cover in the unit 0800 - 2400 & attend if needed 2400 - 0800, 3 registrars on shift throughout day and 2 registrars overnight. The Emergency Department is one of several undergoing modern redevelopment, plus the Medical and Surgical Wards,Outpatient Clinics, ten Operating Theatres, production kitchen and education facilities. It will also include the establishment of a Peri-operative Service and an enhanced Paediatric Unit.
Around 300,000 live in this region, recognised for its wealth of rivers and rich farming land, but with much industrial development providing a broader economic and employment base. Join this skilled team at one of the biggest GI units in NZ, supporting pop of 550,000 working across two hospitals in high quality, innovative service. This excellent team practices a wide range of pathologies and endoscopic procedures including ERCP, EUS and Capsule endoscopy.
As one of the clinical leaders you will be undertaking: Gastroenterology - a minimum of two outpatient clinics per week. Endoscopy clinics - a minimum of two endoscopy lists per week. Plus other clinical and non-clinical duties related to Gastroenterology You will be allocated time and funding for other clinical and non clinical time for this work. You will also of course undertake ward rounds, and be on the acute general medicine oncall roster.
For Gastroenterologist & General Medicine Consultant NZ Auckland, you will need to have qualifications and experience in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at a Consultant level and are registered (or registrable) with the New Zealand Medical Council. The two hospitals total over 200 beds servicing a population of 85,000, a population is one of the fastest growing in NSW and encompasses all age groups, with an emphasis on retirees, plus there is a small Aboriginal population.
Services provided include general medical and surgical, orthopaedic surgery, anaesthetics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, urology and ophthalmology. Major trauma and diving emergencies are transferred by a retrieval team to the nearest tertiary hospital about 30 minutes by helicopter. Facilities between the two hospitals include 24 hr pathology, general X-ray, CT scanning, with reporting by radiologists and interventional radiology. Nuclear medicine and ultrasound are also available.
Consultants’ fields of expertise include General Medicine, with special expertise in respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, infectious diseases and intensive care. General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, ENT, Sleep Disorders, Dermatology, Cardiac Echo, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, O&G, Urology, Anaesthetics, with special interest in intensive care medicine, Paediatrics and an onsite mental health unit.
Ideally you will work as a generalist and have an interest in any of the sub-specialties, although service needs for Gastroenterology and Nephrology are currently well met. You will need to have qualifications suitable for recognition as a Specialist Physician in Australia and the positions are suitable if you need an Area of Need.
