Brilliant first step into Australia for generalist adult Psychiatrist. This is an ongoing position in the south of Tasmania, the coolest capital city of Australia's state, and definitely not a backwater. As part of a multidisciplinary mental health service delivering high quality mental health care you will be a key part of the provision of a comprehensive and integrated general adult inpatient and community psychiatric service. You will be a consultant to other MH professionals, the local GPs and other agencies with regards to the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders plus you will supervise Psychiatric Registrars and other medical staff as required.
Requirements include Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Psychiatry, a current drivers license is essential and of course you must meet all requirements for medical registration as a Specialist in Australia. Ideally you will already be working in Australia, alternately, you may still be considered if you hold Psychiatry qualifications from the UK, Ireland, Canada or US.

Remuneration package includes base salary determined by years of Specialist experience and qualifications ranging $132,011 – $184,815 plus 20% allowance in lieu of private practice earnings, a vehicle or $20,000 allowance, $13,447 and 10 days CME leave plus other leave and a generous relocation allowance.

This 500+ bed service is seeking a Chief Psychiatrist to join its well established team, providing healthcare services to a regional population of over 500,000. The Chief Psychiatrist will be responsible for: • Providing high level specialist advice in relation to mental health policy and clinical practice within the Department, to the CEOs of Tasmanian Health Organisations (THO) and to other Operating Units in relation to mental health policy, clinical practice and legislation that regulates mental health care and treatment and affects professional practice. This is with the aim of promoting continuous quality improvement and supporting the delivery of safe, effective and high quality integrated mental health care and treatment. • Responsible for undertaking the statutory roles of Chief Civil Psychiatrist and Chief Forensic Psychiatrist as provided for in the new mental health legislative framework due to commence operation from 2014 • The Chief Psychiatrist will have a key role in the implementation of the new mental health legislative framework in Tasmania. To be eligible for this position, the Chief Psychiatrist will have Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty. It is desirable that the incumbent is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College or Psychiatrists, or holds specialist registration in the specialty of Psychiatry, or holds limited registration which enables the person to practise the specialty of Psychiatry. This service in beautiful Tasmania is in need of a Clinical Director to undertake a clinical leadership role that provides high level advice and support to the Area Manager and delivers a senior consultant psychiatric service in the area. This service includes two acute and three district hospitals plus several community health centres & many general/family practices supporting a regional population of around 250,000 with high levels of chronic disease & ageing population. You will work with the Area Manager to coordinate the management and development of mental health services to ensure the provision of a comprehensive mental health service in this region of Tasmania. The Clinical Director will provide leadership, direction and change management to facilitate the progression of the Mental Health Service Strategic Plan through the implementation of the integrated model of care. You will ensure the provision of high quality specialist psychiatric medical service as part of a comprehensive, integrated mental health service, and provide leadership, supervision, support and direction to the service’s Registrars, Consultants, and other mental health medical personnel. The Health Service is responsible for the coordination of local human, financial and physical resources to optimize service delivery to the community of need. Its service areas are Child and Adolescent, Adult Community, Inpatient and Extended Treatment, and Older Person Mental Health Services. You will provide assessment, treatment and clinical care to individuals referred to the team. You will act as a medical and psychiatric resource for other team members, and promote and maintain close links with colleagues and service providers to ensure continuity of patient care. A component of this role is participating in medical student teaching and in-service training of staff, as well as providing medical on-call cover, including call-outs for nights and weekends as required.
