The Australian and New Zealand college of Anaesthetists have agreed that some training programs are comparable to their own and so Overseas trained anaesthetists who meet their criteria are able to work unsupervised without any further training. However, Medicare provider number (Private Practice) restriction still apply and the overseas trained specialist may have to work in an area of need.

As a Staff Specialist (or Senior Staff Specialist) you will be responsible for providing high quality care to the patients of the hospital. Furthermore, you will provide supervision of junior medical staff including inpatient care and responsibility for teaching junior medical and nursing staff.
To be eligible for this position, you will have:
- MBBS or equivalent primary medical degree registerable with AHPRA
-ANZCA Fellowship or eligible for registration as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia
-Accreditation with the Colorectal Society of Australia and New Zealand would be preferred.

An excellent opportunity for a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist has just been made available in a naturally stunning region of South Australia. Based in one of only four major rural hospitals in the state, and home to a rural medical clinical school, you will love living and working in this close and welcoming community. As Specialist Anaesthetist you will be part of the team providing health services to a population of around 60,000 a 110 which is being expanded currently to manage a greater clinical workload over the next four years. This expansion will involve operating a regional network arrangement and managing more of the patient care that would ordinarily be managed in the state’s capital.
The hospital offers services in general surgery, specialist surgery, particularly ophthalmology and orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, general medicine, cardiology and gastroenterology. Visiting staff provide a range of additional services and the service itself is supported by a High Dependency Unit and a co-located private hospital. A co-located Community Health Centre provides a good range of allied health support.
The role itself will require you to be responsible for the provision of pre and peri-operative anaesthetic care or both surgical and obstetric patients. Additionally you clinical expertise will be required in the management of patients within the High Dependency Unity and in emergency situations when on duty. A commitment to quality improvement activities as well as your own continuing medical education are also key features of the role.

The service itself provides a range of acute, sub-acute, residential aged care and primary and ambulatory to the local population of around 17,000.
