The Australian and New Zealand college of Anaesthetists have agreed that some training programs are comparable to their own and so Overseas trained anaesthetists who meet their criteria are able to work unsupervised without any further training. However, Medicare provider number (Private Practice) restriction still apply and the overseas trained specialist may have to work in an area of need.

With state-of-the-art PACS digital radiology, MRI, CT and iSOFT, there really is NO better place to take a lead role in growing and guiding an already very comprehensive Anaesthetic service.
As an Anaesthetist with the service you will be responsible for specialist Anaesthetic assessment and care for patients of the region. You will utilise expert knowledge and modern techniques from pre-operative assessment and operating theatre services to obstetric analgesia, ICU and ED resuscitation. Futhermore, you will be required to teach Anaesthetic Registrars in the hospital’s ANZCA accredited dept.

There are currently multiple opportunities for you to join the Dept of Anaesthesia and Pain Management at is one of the newest hospitals in New Zealand; and one of only five tertiary teaching hospitals and a state of the art facility with innovative models of care. Permanent and contract/fixed term roles are available. In addition to the tertiary hospital this health region also includes a secondary level community hospital, total theatres 19. Clinical work will encompass anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties, preoperative assessment of patients, involvement in acute post operative pain management, and participation in an on-call roster. A challenging, tertiary level, case-mix is offered but can be tailored to the individuals past experience and areas of interest.
Anaesthesia is provided for all surgical specialties apart from plastics, paediatric cardiac and heart and lung transplant surgery. The department has an active education programme that includes Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists fellowship training for 20 trainees, continuing education for specialists and participation in an on-site, high-fidelity simulation training suite. Recent development of a new research and education centre provides opportunity to pursue research interests. An attractive employment package, including competitive allowances for on-call work and full-time commitment, is available.
Ideally you will hold FANZCA Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists however an equivalent internatioal specialist qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand for Consultant Anaesthetists Permanent & Fixed Term Opps Tertiary Teaching North Island NZ.
