The Australian and New Zealand college of Anaesthetists have agreed that some training programs are comparable to their own and so Overseas trained anaesthetists who meet their criteria are able to work unsupervised without any further training. However, Medicare provider number (Private Practice) restriction still apply and the overseas trained specialist may have to work in an area of need.

This busy multi-location service right on the Great Barrier Reef coastline in a town of 60,000 is seeking a Director/Senior Specialist in Anaesthetics to join their busy team. This 250-bed hospital is in the midst of a $224M redevelopment and now enjoys an increasing number of operating theatres and ICU beds, as well as newly updated, state of the art resources. With a world-class working environment and stunning natural beauty, this position has it all for the right candidate.

As a Director/Senior Specialist you will work to ensure that the clinical services as provided by your highly skilled and committed team are delivered to the highest standard. You will engage in the teaching and training of other staff in the Hospital as well as liaising with visiting medical officers regarding their continuing medical education and policy formulation. A willingness to participate in the after-hours and on-call roster for the Anaesthetics Unit will also be required in addition to providing both clinical and administrative duties to the Department. You will also be required to provide Anaesthetics cover to 2 smaller services as required.

To be eligible for this exciting opportunity you must:

Possession of qualifications and experience appropriate for registration as a Specialist in Anaesthesia in Australia, i.e. Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) OR equivalent. 

Evidence of CME.

Current drivers licence.

There are currently multiple opportunities for you to join the Dept of Anaesthesia and Pain Management at is one of the newest hospitals in New Zealand; and one of only five tertiary teaching hospitals and a state of the art facility with innovative models of care. Permanent and contract/fixed term roles are available. In addition to the tertiary hospital this health region also includes a secondary level community hospital, total theatres 19. Clinical work will encompass anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties, preoperative assessment of patients, involvement in acute post operative pain management, and participation in an on-call roster. A challenging, tertiary level, case-mix is offered but can be tailored to the individuals past experience and areas of interest. 

Anaesthesia is provided for all surgical specialties apart from plastics, paediatric cardiac and heart and lung transplant surgery.  The department has an active education programme that includes Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists fellowship training for 20 trainees, continuing education for specialists and participation in an on-site, high-fidelity simulation training suite. Recent development of a new research and education centre provides opportunity to pursue research interests. An attractive employment package, including competitive allowances for on-call work and full-time commitment, is available.

Ideally you will hold FANZCA Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists however an equivalent internatioal specialist qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand for Consultant Anaesthetists Permanent & Fixed Term Opps Tertiary Teaching North Island NZ.
