You will be joining a highly skilled team providing quality emergency care to around 52,000 patients per annum at one location, and 44,000 at the other; who present with a wide range of clinical conditions. The Emergency Departments have an established mentoring program. Current consultant portfolios include Toxicology, Primary Care Liaison, Simulation Training, Trauma and Disaster planning. The Hospital campus includes the Wellington division of the Otago Clinical School of Medicine, and the National Patient Simulator Training Centre providing additional opportunities for teaching and research.

Outstanding opportunities exist right now for you to join a service that is both well established, plus is going through a phase of both growth and significant quality improvement in cooler, southern coastal of Western Australia. This is a cooler, temperate climate than much of WA, making it very easy to live in and love. You will be based in an historic and picturesque town of 26,000 that is 1 hr flight from Perth.  The regional catchment for the health service is about 59,000, and main industries include general commerce, varied agriculture, forestry, tourism and mining.  

 

You will have the responsibility for your own patients in the ED, with the support of Specialists/Consultants and/or General Practitioners, so an excellent opportunity to really gain significant experience in practising independently, yet safely.  You will will be an important part of the Emergency Medicine team working with a supportive team both in the ED, the medical and surgical services plus the local GPs.  A great opportunity learn and grow.

 

This hospital is in the midst of a significant upgrade and modernisation worth around $170M, introducing all the latest equipment and informed unit design to make your life and that of the patients that much easier, with ready access to diagnistic services, and an (almost) paperless information system.

 

Salary range depends on experience and qualifications, from $245,203 - $260,854 pa, including base salary $152,700 - $168,351, professional development allowance $25,162 and an allowance in lieu of Private Practice $67,341, plus 9% employer contributed superannuation, access to salary packaging up to $17,000 pa, professional development opportunities and study leave/assistance, flexible leave arrangements, housing rental subsidy, access to motor vehicle and relocation assistance apply to this position.

 

To be eligible you must hold, or be eligible for, registration with the Medical Board of Australia, have 12 years of post graduate experience in either Australia, NZ or an international equivalent first world medicine location and be keen to work with this close-knit team.

This large 680 bed Regional Service has a busy Emergency Department, and services a catchment population of over 300,000, with more than 3000 staff. In the Emergency Medicine Registrar Training Programme, you will get the chance to gain solid Emergency Medicine skills in this service fully accredited with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. The training programme offers structured Part 1 and Part 2 Exam preparation. Additionally, there are various courses which are recommended as part of ongoing training, such as APLS and EMST. As part of the programme, trainees receive departmental Continuing Medical Education (2 hours per week) and Part 1 or Part 2 College exam preparation (2 hours per week) as protected ‘off floor’ teaching, and frequent on-floor teaching, and feedback!

Registrar runs in the region are 6 months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run. 

To be eligible for this superb Emergency Medicine Registrar training program, you must have at least 6 months experience in Emergency medicine runs (Paediatric Emergency Medicine is counted), and be able to start in December 2013. There is an opportunity for an Emergency Medicine Specialist to join the team here at this very modern facility with a friendly and warm atmosphere. Often, you will be working as the sole ED Physician, therefore, you will be the primary responder to critical cases, along with attending to slightly more routine, but still urgent clinical presentations, with the support of a skilled team of ED nurses, who collectively respond to approximately 17,000 presentations annually. Of course, you won’t be totally alone, particularly in cases of incidents of major trauma and acute arrest – you will have support of fellow Specialists from other main clinical disciplines at hand willing to assist.

This fantastic opportunity extends your work/life balance even further, with no current ‘on call’ expectations! This small provincial General Hospital’s ED is staffed on a rotating roster, comprising of one ED Physician on from 08:00 – 18:00, and a second ED on from 13:00 – 23:00 every day. The rotating roster will mean you will take on a fair share of weekend work, on a 1:3 basis.

You will work across two nearby hospitals in the Health District, which services a growing regional population of 300,000. One 206 bed hospital sees 40,000 attendances in the recently expanded Emergency Department annually, while the 480 bed Teaching Hospital sees over 55,000 ED attendances, and is currently undergoing significant redevelopments, including a new Emergency Department.

You will be providing a clinical management and consultation service to inpatients of the Emergency Medicine service and to the community under the Ambulatory Care Model. You will participate in an on-call roster and provide education, supervision and support to junior medical staff.
