The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the specialist medical college responsible for assessment of overseas trained specialist qualifications. There are job opportunities at consultant level in Australia and New Zealand  and limited availability at registrar and SHO (basic surgical trainee) level in New Zealand.

If you hold qualifications from the UK, Ireland, Canada, USA or RSA you may be eligible for conditional registration in the field of Surgery in Australia and New Zealand.

General Surgery Registrar South Island NZ July 2013 start date

Our client is located in the South Island of New Zealand and provides tertiary level care for the region's 180,000 people. The Hospital is an approximately 400 beds and located in two easy to reach locations near the centre of the city.  With University links they pride themselves on being able to offer an array of ongoing study options for you to push the boundaries of your career.

By working in a University Hospital and being guided by a team of dedicated Surgeons, Registrars will experience great support for educational needs including the RACS, the Part 1 and Part II courses.  Weekly teaching plus case discussions, journal clubs and peer review sessions are part of the regular events available to Registrars.
 
In a department that has a strong academic presence; opportunities for the successful candidates will be far and wide and will involve excellent opportunities to undertake research as part of training.
 
Successful candidates will have a minimum of two years post graduate medical experience, posses a strong Surgical interest and be able to start July 2013.

Join a team of 13 consultant General Surgeons in this busy dept in the largest city in new Zealand. The General Surgery department services the adult surgical needs of more than 533,000 people. Currently there are two 34-bed surgical wards. There are thirteen General Surgeons in the department, four Fellows, five Advanced Surgical Trainees and eight Basic Trainee Surgeons.

Our client is offering four 12 month Fellowship positions beginning January 2014 for General Surgeons with interest in one of the following areas:
-Colorectal
-Upper GI/HPB
-Bariatric
-Breast
-Endocrinology
-Head and Neck
-Melanoma

The General Surgeon will be responsible for outpatient clinics and theatre sessions including 1 acute theatre day per week, with ongoing management of acute patients.

This metro hospital serves a population of around 270,000 and provides some specialist services for a regional population of about 920,000 delivering community, primary, secondary and tertiary health services.

The hospital you will be primarily based at is a new hospital with an array of modern facilities and exciting opportunities for its staff. The department of General Surgery primarily provides a secondary level service for acute and elective general surgical patients in the region. However, you will be required to offer your services to a nearby community hospital, with the   opportunity to extend your skills and services sub-regionally at peripheral hospital sites.

This position requires that you have had sub-speciality training in colorectal surgery and will take on a caseload covering both general surgical as well as sub-speciality procedures. You will also be expected to participate in the on call acute roster.

As the Surgeon will be a part of a multidisciplinary team, it is essential that the Specialist have a high level of communication and an ability to interact with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds. Furthermore, they must be willing to assist with the supervision and instruction of junior doctors within in the department.
