This metro hospital serves a population of around 270,000 and provides some specialist services for a regional population of about 920,000 delivering community, primary, secondary and tertiary health services.
The hospital you will be primarily based at is a new hospital with an array of modern facilities and exciting opportunities for its staff. The department of General Surgery primarily provides a secondary level service for acute and elective general surgical patients in the region. However, you will be required to offer your services to a nearby community hospital, with the opportunity to extend your skills and services sub-regionally at peripheral hospital sites.
This position requires that you have had sub-speciality training in colorectal surgery and will take on a caseload covering both general surgical as well as sub-speciality procedures. You will also be expected to participate in the on call acute roster.
As the Surgeon will be a part of a multidisciplinary team, it is essential that the Specialist have a high level of communication and an ability to interact with a wide variety of people from various backgrounds. Furthermore, they must be willing to assist with the supervision and instruction of junior doctors within in the department.
