What better location to complete your training in Geriatrics? As a Geriatrics Advanced Trainee, you will be trained in the branch of Internal Medicine which deals with the management and care of older people. This has become a major branch of medicine due to demographic shifts leading to increased numbers of older people, associated with an increased prevalence of chronic illness. All medical practitioners are finding that an increasing proportion of their patients are older, and thus are looking to Geriatricians for expert advice and opinion. This satisfying and rewarding work combines intellectual challenge, good medicine and team work. Acute and chronic care are brought together, as well as hospital and ambulatory medicine, with Rehabilitation also a large focus. In this training programme, you will rotate through some of New Zealand’s largest hospitals, which are world renowned teaching services, which are located within a 20 mile radius of each other.  Advanced Trainee Registrar runs in the region are six months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run.

To be eligible for this role, you must have passed both written and clinical aspects of FRACP Part 1 at time of interview. You must be able to start in December 2013. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Qualifications from the following countries may be considered "comparable" to NZ qualifications, meaning that registration in NZ will be significantly quicker and cheaper than gaining registration in Australia.  These countries are currently:  Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom or United States of America.

You will be living in a beautiful city with all the modern conveniences. Subtropical islands, beautiful blue waters, and lush native rainforests surround the city, which has been voted in the top three best cities in the world for quality of life. You can indulge in the city’s shopping, nightlife and unrivalled cuisine, as well as experience the many adventures and activities on offer.
