Our client’s Palliative Care Department is seeking an experienced and qualified Palliative Care Physician to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will provide specialist medical services to patients and promote patient quality and safety, as well as provide leadership, training, supervision and education, where relevant to doctors in training, medical practitioners and other health workers. This health service is one of the largest in Western Australia, employing more than 15,000. They are undergoing strong growth, including the construction of a new 783 bed Hospital due to open in 2014. The service is spread across several sites, where staff and resources are aligned, allowing systems and processes to be integrated across the health service in order to achieve goals. The current expansion and changes of services will support and promote opportunities for development, training and education. A competitive award based salary package of $303,455 /£196,539 - $386,501 / £250,325 p.a. including base salary, 9% superannuation, professional development allowance and private practice income allowance, plus allowable expenses. To be considered, you must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and have Fellowship of RACP (Palliative Care) or equivalent. Perth is home to about 1.7m people. This three-year advanced training programme leads to specialised qualification with the RACP. It is anticipated that 2 three-year Advanced Training rotations in Palliative Medicine will be available from December 2013. You will rotate between hospital and hospice inpatient and community settings to enable completion of: - four mandatory six-month training terms in specialist Palliative Care units in hospital community settings - A six-month Oncology training term in a hospital setting - A six month elective period To be eligible for this one-of-a-kind Palliative Medicine Registrar Training Programme, you must have either completed FRACP Part 1, or have Fellowship of another college that is recognised for entry to Advance Training in Palliative Medicine. Applicants must be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Qualifications from the following countries may be considered "comparable" to NZ qualifications, meaning that registration in NZ will be significantly quicker and cheaper than gaining registration in Australia. These six month posts in a Specialist Palliative Care service will allow you to complete the Clinical Diploma through the RACP. You will provide medical care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. This requires a broad range of clinical and communication skills. The metropolitan training sites are accredited for training with the RACP. This Palliative Medicine Registrar Six Month Post is suitable for those training in General Medicine, or Specialty Medicine (usually but not always post FRACP Part 1), or General Practice, who wish to gain experience in Palliative Medicine as part of their training. You will be part of the Palliative Care Service at two nearby hospitals. One service is a 150 bed hospital which has recently completed a $45M upgrade. The other is a modern 130 bed facility. As a Palliative Care Specialist, you will provide new patient assessment, outpatient sessions and clinical rounds, and participate in the out of hours on-call roster. You will supervise junior medical staff, and provide a consultancy service delivering expert advice related to the management of clients requiring palliative care. To be successful in this position, you must be registerable as a Specialist Registration in Palliative Medicine with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and possess a current annual license certificate. Fellowship of the RACP or equivalent, with subspecialty training in Palliative Medicine, or Fellowship in the Chapter of Palliative Medicine of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians is also required. You must also be licensed to operate a motor vehicle. You will receive a fantastic Queensland Health salary package, including a salary of $180 786 - $191 675 p.a (Senior Staff Specialist) or $151 177 - $175 602 p.a. (Staff Specialist). Your classification will be based upon your qualifications and experience.
